Note from the Field (Haiti)

Hi everyone,

We are back in Jeremie, having left Pestel at 8:00am this morning.  We actually made it in 3 hours!!!   Wooo-hooo!  They continue to work on the roads, and are making good progress.
The last hour to Pestel remains a killer, though.
So you can still have pity on us!

We were delayed in getting out to Pestel due to wether.  The plane could not take off on Friday and so we had to leave on Saturday.  That meant all my plans had to be scrunched into Sunday/Monday.   But we did it.

It has been a deilght to have Jon Eager along.  He took over the Mediicka Mamba program and worked with Sister Fidelis and her nurses to get that up and running.  This will help severelly malnourished children.

Sorry about the spelling errors.  The keyboard is finicky, the computer a bit slow, and I'm a bit impatient.

I am thrilled, truly thrilled, with the progress-to-date.  And so is everyone else.  Variety International, Dr. Seneque, the mayor, Sister Fidelis, the workers, the families...you name it--we have reached 11,000 kids and still counting!   The workers are catching on very quickly, and the financial records are all in good order.  The managers are taking good ownership as well.

I had opportunity to present a couple of "new ideas to ome folks who are in leadership positions..  I pitched a nutrition/agricultural program and two of Johnny Zooks' ideas (a modified "rocket stove" and a solar fruit-drier).   They were very interested in the agricultural program, but VERY VERY interested in Johnny's two ideas.  :)

It was good to see Sister Fidelis again.   Our time with her is so special.  I was reflecting that the work that is now underway and is in development is due to the foundation laid by her hard work, perseverance, sacrifice and love for the people of Pestel.  The investment of time and energey  and resources that she (and her sisters) have put into helping the people of Pestel is a great gift to them and a tremendous inspiration to us!

I have to leave soon, but wanted to write this quick email to let you know all is well, and thank you for praying  There are many instances on this trip alone where God was answering prayer.  I'm not at liberty to describe all, but you can be sure that God answers prayers, and cares greatly for the people of Pestel.

Ben
