As Hurricane Season Opens, WFP Outlines Preparedness Plans for Storms

As Hurricane Season Opens, WFP Outlines Preparedness Plans for Storms

It appears to me that the thousands of people living in tents throughout Port-au-Prince are likely to face the hurricane season still living in tents. While WFP's actions are encouraging (see article above), potential disaster is looming.

Who would want to face hurricane winds and rains and mudslides in a tent? It is no place for children, let alone adults.

We can and should pray that the hurricanes will spare Haiti

I recognize that it is easy to criticize, and I know many have worked tirelessly on this issue, but leaving people in tents was never a viable option. And yet, it appears to be the default "choice" due to inability of humans and organizations to commit to a better way.

This 'non-viable option' is likely to result in just that: a significant degree of non-viability--that is, greater suffering and death.
